Tesla Lock Sound Setup Guide

Tesla Lock Sound Setup Guide

1

Prepare USB Drive

First, you need to prepare a USB drive for your Tesla:

  1. Format the USB drive as FAT32 (important for Tesla compatibility)
  2. Name the USB drive something memorable like 'TESLA' (optional)

Note: All data on the USB drive will be preserved, but it's recommended to use a dedicated drive for Tesla features.

2

Download Lock Sound

Choose and download your preferred lock sound:

  1. Browse through the available sounds on LockChime.net
  2. Click the 'Download' button to save your chosen sound to your computer
3

Save File to USB

Prepare the file for your Tesla:

  1. Rename the downloaded file to LockChime.wav (this exact name is required)
  2. Copy this file to the root directory of your USB drive (not in any folder)

Important: The file must be named exactly 'LockChime.wav' and placed in the root directory of the USB drive.

4

Connect USB Drive

Connect the USB drive to your Tesla:

  1. Locate a USB port in your Tesla (usually in the center console or glove box)
  2. Insert the USB drive with your 'LockChime.wav' file
5

Set Lock Sound in Tesla

Configure the lock sound setting in your Tesla:

  1. On your Tesla screen, tap on the 'Toybox' icon
  2. Select 'Boombox' from the options
  3. Choose 'Lock Sound' from the Boombox menu
  4. Your custom sound should appear in the list - select it
  5. Test the sound by locking your car with the app or key fob

Note: If your custom sound doesn't appear, try removing and reinserting the USB drive, or check the troubleshooting section below.

6

Verify and Troubleshoot

After setting up, verify that your custom lock sound works properly:

Troubleshooting

If no sound plays when locking:
  • Verify that the file is named exactly 'LockChime.wav' (case sensitive)
  • Check that the file is in the root directory of the USB drive, not in a folder
  • Make sure the USB drive is properly connected and recognized by the car
  • Try a different USB port in your Tesla if available
If a different sound plays than expected:
  • Check that you've selected the correct sound in the Boombox > Lock Sound menu
  • Try rebooting your Tesla's screen by holding both scroll wheels for 10 seconds
